Young Advisors Call Out: Young Ambassadors and Young Technicians
LIGHT THE BLUE 2025: YOUNG ADVISORS CALL OUT FOR YOUNG AMBASSADORS AND YOUNG TECHNICIANS
Aberdeen Performing Arts is looking for a group of young people aged 14 – 18 to support us in bringing Light the Blue 2025 to life.
Light the Blue is our multi-artform festival for and by young people which takes place every June with a programme of theatre, dance, music, film, visual art and more across Aberdeen. Find out more about Light the Blue here: www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/light-the-blue.
Our Young Advisors will have the opportunity to gain insight into how a professional arts festival is produced, develop new skills and meet likeminded people. This is a perfect opportunity to gain first-hand insight into different career paths in the arts, whilst building confidence and communication skills. Our Young Advisors will work in a fun, fast-paced live event environment, collaborating with industry professionals and inspirational young artists.
We’re looking for Young Ambassadors and Young Technicians to help us run two of our biggest festival events:
- Family Arts Day, Sunday 8th June – a day of pop-up performances, art activities, sports, food and more taking place across His Majesty’s Theatre, Union Terrace Gardens and Aberdeen Art Gallery
- Takeover, Saturday 14th June – a day of performances featuring over 200 young people from across Scotland, leading audiences on a trail across the city to over 10 indoor and outdoor venues
Young Ambassadors
We are looking for up to 6 young people aged 14 – 18 to work with our front of house and producing teams during Light the Blue, developing new skills and gaining hands-on experience of how an arts festival is run.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- meet and shadow team members from a range of departments and roles across the company, from front of house assistants to festival producers and management;
- find out how our teams prepare for city-wide, multi-performance events involving 200+ performers;
- be part of the delivery of the festival, welcoming audiences, supporting our artists and working alongside us to ensure our biggest events run smoothly
Young Ambassadors sessions will take place on the following dates:
- Training Day on Tuesday 3rd June, 4:15pm – 6:15pm (attendance required)
- Family Arts Day on Sunday 8th June, 11am- 5.30pm
- Takeover Day on Saturday 14th June, 11.30am – 5.30pm
The training session will take place at the Music Hall, Union Street. Festival events will take place in multiple venues across the city. Sessions will be facilitated by members of the Aberdeen Performing Arts team. You must be able to attend the training day and at least one of the performance days.
Young Technicians
We are looking for up to 6 young people aged 14 – 18 to work with our technical team during Light the Blue, gaining insight and developing practical skills in areas such as lighting, sound and stage management.
Young Technicians will meet the Light the Blue team for an afternoon of training where they’ll learn the technical set-up at our venues, look at the logistics for each event and meet the tech team whilst they work on a show. Participants will then join us for at least one Light the Blue event to put these skills into practice; moving around different stations throughout the day to get first-hand experience in a range of roles, venues and equipment (as well as getting to see lots of exciting performances).
Young Technicians sessions will take place on the following dates:
- Training Day on Thursday 5th June, 4.15pm – 6.15pm (attendance required)
- Family Arts Day on Sunday 8th June, 11am- 5.30pm
- Takeover Day on Saturday 14th June, 11.30am – 5.30pm
The training session will take place at the Music Hall, Union Street. Festival events will take place in multiple venues across the city. Sessions will be facilitated by members of the Aberdeen Performing Arts team. You must be able to attend the training day and at least one of the performance days.
