Granite Noir is inspired by the incredible popularity of crime fiction in all its forms, by the fantastic contribution that Scottish writers make, by our love affair with Nordic Noir, on the page and on screen, and most of all inspired by Aberdeen, which is the perfect backdrop for the festival – steeped in history, atmospheric, quirky and with a strong sense of place.

We are lucky to have such high quality productions on show during Granite Noir. From big stages to small, and to lecture theatres. There’s a different setting for different stories, each an atmospheric treat.
The fun continues on film with screenings of the most suspenseful stories. These events are another great way to change up your Granite Noir experience.

There are various writing workshops led by professional writers that offer a safe and invigorating creative environment. Ditch your worries at the door and pick up a pen instead, who knows where it could lead you!
