Case #1 - Chapter 1

Disappearance

You do the final checks. Patting pockets as you mentally tick each valuable off the list.

Wallet, check. Keys, check. Case, packed. You point to the worn luggage sitting patiently by the door.

Ticket… ticket… A hand pads at an empty breast pocket. The other begins the search.

A pile of documents are held high above your head just as your eyes meet a neat little rectangle with the words “Granite Noir” written on it. Bingo.

You toss the pile in your hands on top of another sitting nearby growing it to dangerous heights. The tower leans and threatens to bury it once again. Before it can topple, you grab the ticket and the itinerary sitting next to it.

After tucking the ticket safely into your breast pocket, you check the itinerary for the times and stops the train will make before it gets to your destination. One of the times is smudged and you can’t quite make out what it is saying.

However, you scan what’s in front of you and using your intellect and wit, gather what time it is you should arrive at your destination.

What time does the train stop at Aberdeen?

Hints

Highlight the text below to see the hint.

Hint #1 → There is a pattern amongst the times, pay attention to how long it takes between each stop.

Hint #2 → The pattern is mirrored, with Dundee being the centre.

Hint #3 → If the pattern of times between stops is 20, 40, 15, 15, 40, X, and the pattern is a mirror, then it should end how it began. With 20 minutes as the last time in between stops. And 20 minutes from 20:05 would mean you’d arrive in Aberdeen at 20:25.
