Schools & Colleges
You’ll find more than just an arts charity at Aberdeen Performing Arts. We have education at our core. And whether that’s formal learning in a structured way, or flexible community programmes, we’re determined that our invitation to Take Part reaches everyone. It’s about exploration, participation and discovery.
Backstage Tours
Backstage Tours: the secrets behind the curtain
Drama, history, wardrobe, lights, technology, logistics, planning, teamwork, (plus a few ghosts) …it’s all here. Whatever happens, the show must go on. Enjoy an insight into the less well-known corners of His Majesty’s Theatre and The Music Hall and discover what happens behind the scenes through our fun and educational backstage tours. We’ll even throw in a lively performance workshop to let off some steam. We tailor everything to your needs and run tours for groups aged six upwards, with any access requirements. What secrets will you discover?
Work Experience
We have a longstanding commitment to developing talent in all areas of the arts, and aim to make working in the arts industry as accessible for all as possible. We aim to provide a number of opportunities each year to gain experience of working in our venues and our current vacancies can be found here. Featured Project
City Crew film and sound making project
In a free workshop, film maker Graeme Roger and sound artist Dave Martin spent five days working with a group of young people (aged 13–16) interested in film and sound.
Using city centre locations as their inspiration, the group of young creatives were taught how to use digital cameras to make a short film, how to record sound and music for a film soundtrack and how to create a film with the assets.
Watch the final showreel to see how the project took shape.
Light the Blue
Light the Blue is a celebration of Youth Arts in Aberdeen and beyond, taking place in the form of a 5 day festival each June.
Our inaugural festival took place in 2018 and since the beginning, Light the Blue has allowed us to showcase the talent across our youth arts classes through performances devised and developed by participants within our programmes.
As well as giving a platform to talent from our own Creative Learning programme, Light the Blue also offers us an opportunity to work with arts practitioners, organisations and theatre companies from across Aberdeen and throughout Scotland.
Workshops, talks and masterclasses are also held for young people across the weekend meaning that Light the Blue is a perfect way for young people to perform, spectate or participate in a celebration of youth arts in Aberdeen!
