Light The Blue 2025: Takeover

Teens take over Aberdeen City Centre for Light the Blue Takeover day 2025! Curated in collaboration with our Young Programmers group, join the trail from the Anatomy Rooms to Music Hall to discover pop-up performances from local youth groups across Aberdeen and beyond. We’ve got a range of dance, theatre and music performances that step into the unknown, presented in unusual spaces from bandstands to shopping centres. And the best part? It’s all FREE!

Running Saturday 14th June from 12:30pm – 5:30pm, bring your pals along and drop-in to the trail as and when you like. There’s no need to book a ticket, just rock up! Our jam-packed line-up features performances from 20 exciting youth groups including:

1. Theatre performances from Aberdeen Performing Arts Junior, Intermediate and Senior Youth Theatre, Ten Feet Tall FUSE Drama Group, St Machar Drama Club, Aberdeen Arts Centre 12-15 Drama Group, Academy of Expressive Arts and Castlegate Theatre Company
2. Dance performances from right2dance, Eden Court Youth Dance, Citymoves Dance Agency’s Pulse, Fusion and Horizons and YDance Horizons Glasgow
3. Music performances from Fiddle Futures Seniors
4. Film screenings and roving radio broadcasting from Station House Media Unit
5. Art exhibitions from Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Beats and Rhymes, Standing Tall Scotland and Guardianship Scotland and Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust with sound’s Creative Orchestra

Young Programmers

Young Programmers are a group of 14 – 18 year olds from across Aberdeen who are working with the Light the Blue team to co-design Takeover and take an active role in the delivery of the event.

Please Note

Takeover will invite audience members to move between various indoor and outdoor spaces to experience the event. In the event of bad weather, we will move outdoor activity to indoor venues and communicate this across our channels. If you would like to discuss any mobility or access concerns, please contact lightthebluefestival@aberdeenperformingarts.com.

Light The Blue 2025

Light the Blue is our multi-artform festival for and by young people returning 1st – 15th June 2025 with a programme of theatre, music, dance, film, visual arts and more taking place across Aberdeen city.

With over 25 events across 15 days, this year’s festival invites artists and audiences to step into the unknown – with stories being told in new and exciting ways on our stages as well as unusual indoor and outdoor locations.

Light the Blue offers something for everyone – whether you’re a young person, a family or interested in seeing work in the early stages of development. Join us in June for an unmissable fortnight of creativity, conversation and connection.
