Portsoy Shoreline – A Geo-dive into the Grampian Orogeny (Aberdeen Science Festival)
Delivered by the Portsoy Community Enterprise & University of Aberdeen. Part of the Scottish Geology Festival. The coast at Portsoy is world-famous for its geology – a dramatic section of metamorphic rocks –squashed and cooked by the mountain building events that laid the foundations of the Scottish Highlands. Join us to explore the geology and history, including the celebrated “Portsoy Marble”. See rock specimens under the microscope at Portsoy Bothy Museum and in dramatic outcrops on the shoreline.
The guided excursion involves 2-3 km walking on surfaced paths.
