Aberdeen Remembers
1945 – 2025
Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire celebrate and remember the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share in a moving and commemorative event, focused on the contribution and sacrifice made by the people of North East Scotland over the course of that conflict and in the years since.
While 8th May 1945 marked Victory in Europe, with singing and dancing in the streets as dangers and restrictions of wartime came to an end, the war finally came to an end three months later with VJ Day marking Japan’s surrender to the Allied forces on 15th August.
The first half of this commemorative concert celebrates the contribution of the Gordon Highlanders – described by Winston Churchill as “the Finest Regiment in the World” – and the many others who served during the Second World War, accompanied by live music from the 1940s.
“For our tomorrow, they gave their today” frames the second half of the concert, celebrating music and culture over the decades since 1945, with a focus on Aberdeen and the North East.
