Winning Team
This is it.
You give the door a firm knock.
For a second, you think you might have got it wrong after all. But after a moment, you hear some movement.
“It’s about time you useless-“ Rob’s vexation is replaced with a sheet of white.
Before he gets it closed, you force yourself through the doorway. Rob’s back hits the wall before scrambling into the apartment.
“Look I didn’t do it. I swear! I just found him like that,” he yells. “I’ve been hiding so I can figure out how to clear my name.”
You reach for something in your jacket as Rob cowers behind his palms.
Placing the image on a nearby table, you point at one of the corners.
“The trophy? Look, I want to know where it is as much as you do.” Rob explains. “But I couldn’t see it anywhere. I promise.”
You don’t get the sense he’s lying. It’s just this table, a stool and a pitiful sandwich.
“I remember that photo y’know.” Rob looks down. “It was a dumb work wide sports day. We joked about it, but we all become so invested when it came around. Our little team ended up winning Best Spirit.”
A small smile tugs at his lips, “That’s what that trophy was for.”
“We also got medals. I came last in our team.” Rob says.
