We know access to creative learning activities is essential to sparking curiosity and building a love for the arts.
Engaging in creative pursuits enriches young lives, enhances learning both in and beyond the classroom and deepens understanding of the creative industries and future career opportunities. We offer unique experiences which help embed arts and creativity into learning and support in preparing young people for life and work.
Through our programme of engagement, young people develop essential skills such as critical thinking, teamwork and problem solving whilst supporting self-expression, empathy and improved well-being. We have opportunities for primary, secondary and ASN (Additional Support Needs) schools to discover the arts with us.

Light the Blue
Light the Blue is our multi art form festival created for and by young people
Each year, the festival offers exciting creative opportunities for schools to get involved.
In previous festivals, school groups have taken part in a wide range of creative experiences: writing scripts to be performed by professional actors, creating and performing their own mini operas on the stage at the Music Hall and joining our Into the Arts day. This special day introduces young people to the many different career pathways into the arts, with first hand insights from industry professionals across our technical, programming and marketing teams, as well as from educators at the Conservatoire and NESCOL. Another highlight is the chance to take part in special tours of His Majesty’s Theatre and the Music Hall. These tours are always hugely popular. While we’d love to offer them year-round, as a working theatre, this isn’t possible – so Light the Blue provides a unique opportunity for school groups to experience our venues, both front of house and backstage, and discover the fascinating stories and history of these iconic spaces.

Term time Engagement Workshops for School Pupils Youth Theatre and Music-making
Our workshops are designed to be friendly and supportive, helping young people develop new skills, build confidence, make friends and express themselves creatively. Led by an experienced and skilled workshop team, we are passionate about unlocking everyone’s creative potential.
- Drama workshops: available from Primary 1 through to S6
- Music producing & making workshops: available for S1–S6
Everyone who takes part is encouraged to get involved in our Light the Blue Festival, whether as a performer, lyricist, composer or by supporting in a production role. If you have pupils who may be interested in our workshops, we’d be delighted if you could share these opportunities with them.
At the heart of everything we do is our ethos: Everyone is Welcome Here. This underpins all our work and extends an offer of free spaces in all our workshops so that cost is never a barrier to taking part.
