Soil Love Letters: A Living Installation (Light the Blue 2026)
Two filing cabinets stand side by side, their surfaces painted to reveal what lies beneath our feet — layers of topsoil, subsoil, weathered rock, and bedrock. The top is crowned with living lawn turf. But the real magic is inside.
Open the drawers to discover an ever-growing archive of love letters written to soil. Tender, playful, worried, grateful — hundreds of voices addressing the earth beneath their feet. What have you noticed about the ground? What are you grateful for? What would soil say back to you?
The installation is fully interactive. Read existing letters. Write your own and add it to the archive. Listen to audio recordings of selected submissions. Take home seed paper scrolls to plant.
This isn’t just about looking at art — it’s about participating in a living, growing conversation with the ground beneath our feet.

Artist Bio
Mara Marxt Lewis
Mara Marxt Lewis is a socially engaged environmental artist in Gourdon, where she live within arm’s reach of the sea. Mara’s work focuses on helping people engage with climate as something local and real. She is drawn to the cultural stories and commoning traditions of coastal communities as blueprints for how we might face climate crisis together.
