Tony Roper's The Steamie

Mrs Culfeathers- Lesley Mackie

Born in Dundee, Lesley studied drama at the RSAMD and from there, went into The Great Northern Welly Boot Show with Billy Connolly. Lesley made her film debut in 1973 as the schoolgirl Daisy in The Wicker Man, for which she also sang the title song. She still finds it fun to be part of a cult film.

She has worked extensively in theatre since 1974, her favourite roles being Piaf, Judy, Shirley Valentine and Miss Hannigan in Annie. as well as many appearances on television including a lead in Peter McDougall’s Play for Today, Just Your Luck, and High Road.

She won an Olivier award in 1986 for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the musical Judy (Strand Theatre) written by her husband, Terry Wale.Other London appearances include Bells are Ringing (Greenwich) and Brigadoon (Victoria Palace Theatre).

She has recorded 250 audio books, and in 2023, published her memoir In and Out of the Spotlight (Ups and Downs of an Actress) on Amazon.

Andy – Paul J Corrigan

Paul J Corrigan is a familiar face to Scottish audiences across stage and screen. He is best known for his long-running role as Stevie Burns in the BBC’s River City, and as Adam in the hit comedy Gary: Tank Commander. His television credits also include Gaz in Still Game, Rab C. Nesbitt, Only an Excuse? and Legit.

His theatre work includes the National Theatre of Scotland’s multi award-winning Black Watch, alongside Cuttin’ a Rug, No Mean City, James and the Giant Peach (Citizens Theatre), The Sailmaker (Ayr Gaiety), and The Wolves in the Walls (NTS/New Victory, Broadway), as well as Gobbo and Man Cub (NTS), and numerous productions at Oran Mor and theatres across the UK.

Paul is also a hugely popular panto performer and a regular favourite with audiences at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen for Crossroads Pantomimes.

Magrit – Ali Cleland (Alison Riddell)

Ali trained in Musical Theatre at Motherwell College and has built a varied career in theatre spanning over 15 years, seeing her work nationwide. Alongside her acting
career, she works as a musician/musical director and composer.

Some theatre credits include: Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella (Kilmarnock Palace Theatre), Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty (Gaiety Theatre, Ayr), They Live In you (Bloomsbury Theatre, London), GIRLS NIGHT OOT! (Scottish & Irish Tour), We Come to Break Your Hearts (Tron Theatre), and Legally Blonde (Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales).

Ali has also performed in concert with Natalie Weiss and was involved in the original workshop for Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour. Her original musical ‘Hen Night Horror’ toured Scotland last year, receiving five-star reviews.

Dolly – Louise McCarthy

Louise McCarthy is a Scottish actor, writer and producer working across stage and screen. Theatre includes The High Life (National Theatre of Scotland / Dundee Rep
Theatre), Mamma Mia! (West End), The Steamie, Wild Rose (Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh), and multiple productions with the National Theatre of Scotland. She was nominated for Best Actress at the 2017 CATS Awards for Cuttin’ A Rug.

Television credits include Stevens & McCarthy (creator/writer), Scot Squad, Two Doors Down, Only an Excuse?, In Plain Sight, The Scotts and Queen of the New Year. Film
includes Wild Rose (Film4/BFI).

As a writer, Louise has contributed to BBC Comedy Unit productions including Scot Squad and Only an Excuse?, and has been commissioned to develop two new BBC
comedy pilots. She is also co-writer of The DOLLS stage productions. As a writer, she has contributed to Scot Squad, Only an Excuse? and Queen of the New Year, and produces The Dolls tours and The Steamie (2026). I’m really delighted to be returning to The Steamie, this time playing Dolly. I previously played Magrit, so it’s lovely to come back to such a special show and get the chance to explore a different character.

Doreen – Eden Barrie

Eden is an actor musician and graduate from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Theatre credits include Malory Towers UK Tour (Emma Rice Company), The Sound of Music, A Toast Fae the Lassies (Pitlochry Festival Theatre), Nessie (PFT/Capital Theatres) Grease (PFT/Blackpool Grand Theatre), Urinetown, Sweet Charity (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), Beauty and the Beast (R&H Productions) Soloist in Emerging Scots and Composer for Scribbles (The Other Palace).
