Which way up?
You trundle through the narrow alleyways and over cobblestoned paths.
The sun dips below the horizon and the bite in the air is getting uncomfortable. Now would be a good time to hop into the welcoming embrace of a pub before the evening chill becomes too much to bear. Light on your feet, you bounce into the nearest one that will offer some rest from your search.
A gentle warmth greets you at the door as you try to get your hands acclimatised to its surroundings. You bring them up to your face, scan the room and breathe new life into your fingertips.
The burly bartender looks over at you as you stride towards him.
Pulling out a map that was folded away in your pockets, you begin to ask for directions.
His shoulders drop and he rolls his eyes.
“Thought you were in here lookin’ for some trouble, luv,” he says.
Looking down, he prods the sheet with his stubby fingers and explains, “Ye hav’ the map the wrang wai roond, ken? If ye walk straight past the big building on yer left, and the wee wan on yer right, then we’re the wan pointing North-east”.
Which way should the map be read?

Hint #1 → The bartender says it’s the building in the North-east. Which map shows a building in that direction?
Hint #2 → You’d reach the big building on your left first, small building on your right second, before heading towards the North-east building last.
Hint #3 → There’s only two with buildings that are obviously in the North-east. Map 1 and Map 2 both have a building in the North-east but only one fits the bill if you were walking STRAIGHT past the big building on your left and small building on your right.
